Susan Hood

Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist

With over 30 years of clinical experience, Susan is a highly skilled neurological physiotherapist with extensive expertise across NHS and community rehabilitation services. Throughout her career, she has worked in a wide range of healthcare environments, including neurological rehabilitation units, outpatient clinics, community neuro teams, vascular wards, and intensive care settings. This breadth of experience has enabled her to develop a deep understanding of complex neurological presentations and the rehabilitation needs of individuals at every stage of their recovery.

Susan has significant experience assessing and treating people with conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury. She develops personalised rehabilitation programmes that focus on functional recovery, independence, and long-term condition management. Her practice is grounded in evidence-based, person-centred care, and she works closely with multidisciplinary teams, patients, families, and carers to ensure coordinated and effective rehabilitation.

Her clinical skills include comprehensive neurological assessment, management of complex cases, respiratory physiotherapy, vascular rehabilitation, and amputee rehabilitation, both pre- and post-prosthetic fitting.

She also incorporates specialist rehabilitation techniques such as Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES), SAEBO FLEX, and Bobath-based approaches to optimise movement, strength, and functional outcomes. In addition to her clinical work, Susan has experience supervising physiotherapy staff, assistants, and students, contributing to the development of future clinicians.
